The Vitalograph copd-6 can help millions of undiagnosed COPD sufferers around the world
Buckingham - 12 April, 2007: Millions of people around the world have COPD, but most of them don't know it. Undiagnosed and untreated COPD sufferers are at risk of developing advanced COPD and requiring long-term palliative care. Early diagnosis can greatly enhance the effectiveness of medical intervention, particularly if the condition is diagnosed at the pre-symptomatic stage.
The new Vitalograph copd-6 is designed to help tackle the challenge of detecting COPD by enabling primary care practitioners to 'case select' those at risk of COPD for fast, simple and effective screening.
The copd-6 identifies likely cases of COPD by measuring patients' obstructive index and FEV1/FEV6 ratio. Those whose measurements are within normal range can be screened out, allowing diagnostic spirometry resources to be focussed on those most at risk.
"The Vitalograph copd-6 is designed to help those in primary care to detect unidentified COPD. Early detection of those with COPD is a vital key to improving clinical outcomes" says Vitalograph International Sales & Marketing Manager, Bob Bemister.
