Vitalograph Supports World COPD Day
Vitalograph teamed up with the British Lung Foundation (BLF) in a series of lung testing events throughout November, held around the country in support of World COPD Day on November 14th.
The aim of the events was to raise public awareness of COPD and the support available to those living with this debilitating condition.
Vitalograph provided the BLF with copd-6 screeners to help tackle one of the biggest challenges associated with COPD namely, identifying exactly who has the condition. The scale of this challenge has been highlighted by the British Lung Foundation, who estimate that of the 3.8 million people in the UK who have COPD, 2.8 million of them don't know it. By remaining undiagnosed and untreated they are at risk of developing advanced COPD and requiring long-term palliative care.
The Vitalograph copd-6 identifies likely cases of COPD by measuring patients' obstructive index and FEV1/FEV6 ratio. Those whose measurements are within normal range do not have COPD and can therefore be screened out, allowing diagnostic spirometry resources to be focussed on those most at risk.
Helping the lung testing event at Whiteleys Shopping Centre, in Bayswater, London, to go with a swing was a giant size figure of a Vitalograph copd-6 screener affectionately known as Peter.
"We are delighted to support World COPD day and to encourage early diagnosis as this can help create better clinical outcomes" says Vitalograph Sales & Marketing Manager, Bob Bemister.
